Sahana Pulleti is a vocalist, composer and educator from Mumbai, India. Her music brings jazz and Indian music together, and fuses it with elements of neo-soul and R&B for an exciting horn-driven sound against vocal harmonies. At the age of 16, she moved to Austin, Texas where she attended the Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts focusing on voice, songwriting and classical guitar.During this time, she picked up a great interest in classical guitar and indie/folk songwriting — two very different things that broadened her musicianship greatly. Currently, Sahana is finishing up her studies at Berklee College of Music where she will earn a degree in Jazz Composition and Performance. At Berklee, she also got a chance to study piano more extensively so as to aid her compositional process. You can catch her scatting to jazz repertoire in local venues in Boston, and hear her voice on upcoming fusion projects.
Sahana believes in pushing her students out of their comfort zone just enough so they can grow with discipline, patience and creativity. She believes in tailoring each lesson to suit both the student and teacher’s criteria, so they are equal parts curiosity and practice. How to structure your practice time is also an important aspect of learning music which will be discussed during lessons. Learning to sing or play an instrument is a wonderful endeavor that can bring positive changes in both one’s mind and body. Sahana hopes to instill this sense of joy in each of her students, with the hope that they will continue to let music be a part of their life even after she has taught them everything they need to know.
